Relationship-based schools

Relationship-based schools

Relationship-based schools, has become an important part of the social fabric at all of our schools at Kenora Catholic. Children come to school with numerous influencing experiences from outside the classroom. Relationships are one of the most important agents of change for a child and being a supportive, predictable, nurturing adult in a child's life is one of the best ways to have a positive impact. Our schools take rational approaches in the classroom to create that connection and to foster a school community environment in which children can thrive. There is also a focus on giving children the tools they need to have personal resiliency to deal with life's day-to-day stressors. We want to create genuine, authentic relationships with all our students that support their well-being and academic success.

Another big part of Relationship-Based Schools is using the Neurosequential Model in Education. NME aims to help educators better understand student behavior and performance. NME is not an "intervention" but a way to educate staff about brain development and development trauma and how to help students both in and outside the classroom.
