Rain or Shine, Grade 4-5 Students Plant Trees for the Future
Posted on 05/22/2024
"Well, at least we won't need to water them!" a student said during a memorable tree-planting field trip in the Red Lake area today. Despite the persistent rain, the Grade 4-5 class eagerly hiked through the forest, embracing the adventure and the opportunity to make a difference.
Guided by local forester Robert Partridge, the students learned about the history of the site, the age of established trees, and the proper techniques for planting. Their enthusiasm was palpable as they organized into teams, expertly digging holes, placing Red Pine seedlings, and packing the soil around them.
This hands-on experience not only gave them a better understanding of taking care of the environment but also created some awesome memories. The students' hard work will help the forest grow showing their dedication and teamwork. We can’t wait to come back and see the thriving forest they helped create.
Hands-on learning and outdoor education offer students invaluable benefits, including a deeper connection to the material and an enhanced understanding of real-world applications. These experiences foster critical thinking, teamwork, and a genuine appreciation for the environment, all while making learning more engaging and memorable.
A big thank you to the students for being troopers through the rain! Your enthusiasm and hard work made the day a huge success, rain or shine.
